The South Yorkshire Maths Hub is one of 40 Maths Hubs in England, working together within the Maths Hubs Programme, which began in 2014.

The programme is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and coordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), offering over 30 professional development opportunities to individuals, Trusts, departments and schools.

The core purpose of Maths Hubs is to help improve mathematics education in England, seeking to harness all the maths leadership and expertise within an area to develop excellent practice for the benefit of all pupils and students.

Teachers and Trust leaders work alongside colleagues from other schools and Trusts in a small group, led by a local experienced teacher with expertise in professional development and the school phase in question. Some projects involve larger groups, coordinated and led regionally or nationally, participating in online and face-to-face meetings.
